WEN Hair Care Sued After 200 People Loss Hair

Wen Hair Care Sued

Dean, a former Los Angeles hairdresser, said he developed the WEN Hair Care line in 1993 and tested it for five years before its official debut.

One of the plaintiffs, Amy Friedman of Florida, has stated that she purchased a WEN Cleansing Conditioner Sweet Almont Mint basic kit for $29.95 - and soon noticed a problem.

Court papers say that when Amy Friedman bought the products in January of past year, she started losing "substantial and abnormal amounts of hair" within a fortnight.

WEN says there's no scientific proof that something in the conditioners is to blame for the women's hair loss. Her hair began falling out within two weeks of using it, she claims.

'I only used it a month and lost hair by the handfuls... "Wen has to be taken off the market before it causes more people harm". "I would expect if someone was experiencing hair loss due to an allergy to Wen, they'd have an itchy, pink scalp". I thought it was odd, but then it got worse and worse and worse.

WEN's website states that its hair care products will "give your hair more shine, body and bounce". "Doctor have checked hormones and thyroids, both fine". Now I only lose about a eighth (1/8) in total of what I did. "I would have a palm full of hair".

However, the complaint does not specify the supposed ingredient that purportedly causes hair loss.

Alexis Evans is the Editorial Assistant at Law Street and a Buckeye State native new to Washington D.C. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and a minor in Business from Ohio University.

As with most co-washes, WEN promises their cleansing conditioner "take[s] the place of your shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler, and leave-in conditioner".

200 women have come together to file a lawsuit against WEN after they claim that it caused them to hair loss.

"Some of the men and women that we represented look like they had a weed whacker taken to their head", Davis described.

Others said the sulfate-free shampoo alternative caused hair breakage, scalp irritation, rashes and more, the Daily Beast reported.

WEN hair told CBS11 "With well over 10 million WEN products shipped since 2008, our customers' overwhelmingly positive response to Wen is a testament to the benefits it can deliver for its users".

"The parties are attempting to settle their differences and we have agreed to refrain from any extrajudicial statements in the meantime", attorney Davis said in an email to CBS MoneyWatch. According to Kelsey Smart, a stylist at Fox & Jane salon in NY the reason for the mixed reviews may have to do with WEN's effect on different hair types.
