44 percent of new HIV Infections in Nairobi occur among ''stable and married couples'', National Aids and STI control Programme (NASCOP) states.

The figure is higher than the 14 percent of new infections among sex workers and their clients; HOW AFRICA reports. When questioned on why a married person will have unprotected sex, risking his life and that of his partner and wife, a 45-year old Kenyan accountant who chose to stay anonymous because he is ''happily married' said it just happens.

He said, "You use protection one or two time, but as the time goes by and you become familiar with each other, you gradually start having unprotected sex even without planning to''.
