GITEX 2015: Nigeria to showcase young tech startups

The National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, is concluding arrangement to showcase pool of young Nigerian technology startups at Gitex 2015 at the country’s Pavilion.

Slated to hold October this year at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), the theme for GITEX Technology Week 2015 is, ‘The Internet Future of Everything.’

At the capacity building forum, Nigeria will be promoting its technology startups through NITDA to leverage on this main theme by featuring an army of young innovators delivering revenue-delivering solutions across sectors including Education, Healthcare, Agriculture, Security, Oil and Gas, and the Retail Industry among others.

To ensure full participation of the public and private sectors as well as the education/research institutions, NITDA has embraced multi-sector stakeholders in the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) charged with ensuring the country’s successful participation.

The GITEX local organizing committee headed by Dr. Vincent Olatunji, will provide the framework and implementation activities for participation of stakeholders inside the Nigerian Pavilion at Gitex 2015; promotion of local startups; projection of the country’s vast and untapped IT potential, among others.

“The NITDA is encouraging pool of young talents to showcase their content-rich initiatives that could determine both the direction of technology investment whether local or foreign; and the direction of the entire ICT industry beyond how we know it now as well as the shape of the economy beyond crude oil export,”, Dr. Peter Jack, the director general of NITDA said after the second GITEX LOC meeting which held recently in Abuja.

“We welcome initiatives to address needs in the healthcare, banking, education and agriculture sectors among others. We have to expose our young and talented startups to investors, global IT buyers and tech acquisition specialists keen to know more about the country and willing to explore partnerships and business opportunities.

“ This applies to startups and the already well established companies seeking to expand their portfolio of business interests and margins” said Dr. Olatunji.

“Gitex offers a veritable platform to promote Nigeria’s IT goals and showcase local business concerns whether in incubation or already blossoming. Our participation is designed to increase the value of the local IT industry as the new industry verticals prove that successful companies must be both local and global,” said Oruame.
