Baby left in car for two hours dies

'It appears that there were other things on their mind.' Jaxon Taylor, 11 months old, is

AN 11-months-old baby boy, forgot for two hours by his grandparents on a hot day, is the 19th child to die in a sweltering car in the US this year.

Jaxon Taylor, an only child, was forgot after his grandparents returned home from attending church in the historic town of Chickamauga in northwest Georgia, AJC reported.

Kyle and Meta Hendershot arrived home with their adult daughter and another grandchild with the temperature about 32C. No-one brought Jaxon out of the Toyota SUV.

Two-and-a-half hours later Jaxon’s mum, Mandie Hendershot, woke after a sleep after a shift as a nurse and asked for her son.

With temperatures in the car reaching as high as 78C, Jaxon’s mother tried to revive him and attempted CPR. He was taken to Hutcheson Medical Centre, where his mother works, and was declared dead.

“It appears that there were other things on their mind,” Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson told CNN. “There was a lack of communication within the three adults. They assumed that one of the others had brought in the child and laid him down. They didn’t communicate who would get the child.”

Jaxon is the 19th child to die in a hot car in the US this year, according to Janette Fennell, president and founder of KidsandCars.org. An average of 38 children die in the US each year after parents leave their children trapped inside a hot car.

Jaxon’s heartbrokenmother has been posting pictures of Jaxon and her fiancé and writing messages on her Facebook page since the tragedy.

“It is very widespread news at this point that my son died on Saturday, September 6th at 11 months and 8 days old. There have been many news reports, and various stories. I was not there, and he was in the care of his grandparents, my parents. His death was a horrific, tragic event and has devestated (sic) many. My son had the best two grandparents any baby ever had in his short time here. These are grandparents that were there through my long, 23 hour labor (sic). These are the grandparents that took him some weekend nights and walked for hours when he had colic and was inconsolable. These are the grandparents that watched him roll over, sit up, crawl and pull himself up for the first time. These people held and loved him when he was sick, feverish or fussy. These are the people that could make him smile and laugh when no one else could. They were there for him every day of his life, and my son loved them unconditionally the same way they did. What happened was terrible, there is no arguement (sic) for that. But who of us hasn’t made a mistake, such a horrible mistake that we thought nobody else could forgive it? Who hasn’t had others judge them, and spit on them and spew hatred? Since every one of us has done terrible things and caused immense pain to others, who but God can condemn? I am in more pain than any human has ever experienced, but I chose to let go of hatred and blame. I remember my sweet boy with love and grief, and I will always love him” she wrote.

Officials are still investigating Jaxon’s death but believe it to be accidental.

The family is asking for donations to help with funeral costs on a GoFundMe page.
